Introduction to Animation & Rendering for Technical Artists

1. Broad Coverage with a Focus on Real-World Workflows The course covers two major areas—animation and rendering—introducing students to key areas of technical art. By the end of the course, students will understand how technical artists work across both animation-related areas, such as rigging and Animation Blueprints, and rendering-related areas, such as shaders, materials, and particle systems. This provides a clear introduction to what a Technical Artist (TA) actually does. 2. Progressive, Step-by-Step Structure The animation module progresses from skeletal fundamentals → Maya animation → Python tools → Unreal Engine Control Rig → Animation Blueprints. The rendering module progresses from rendering pipeline fundamentals → shader fundamentals → PBR → advanced shader techniques → particle systems. Each section starts with fundamental concepts and gradually increases in technical depth, making the course accessible to beginners with no prior technical art experience. 3. Hands-On, Production-Oriented Practice The animation module includes FBX export, Blueprints, and Control Rig, while the rendering module covers shader programming, Substance, and Unreal Engine particle systems. Students will build small demos throughout the course, giving beginners hands-on experience and tangible results as they develop their technical skills.
